The Empty Bottle **** 1035 N Western

We’re ringing in the New Year by turning the Empty Bottle into our living room and inviting a damn respectable roster of Chicago musicians to be our guests.

Expect alternate instruments and room for improvisation as we we try out different textures and arrangements of tunes you know along with some new ones.

Brave the cold, embrace the Slumber.

11/21 WBEZ Live Broadcast and City Winery

We are excited to announce that we’ll be performing live on WBEZ Chicago Public Radio (91.5 FM) Wednesday November 21st on the Morning Shift.

Tune in from 8:50 to 10 am CST to hear us play in and out of segments and some full songs!

That very evening we’ll be at the City Winery opening for one of our banjo heroes Danny Barnes! With fellow Chicagoans the Waco Brothers closing out the night you’re in for a great show.

We’ll be Tweeting from the WBEZ studio that morning so follow us to know when we’re playing and when we’re being interviewed. Happy Turkey Day folks!

Day Trotter

We sure love Illinois, our native state and home base, and we consider Day Trotter to be one of the greatest contributions our state  has made to music in the last decade. This session captures a great moment in time. Al and Cris on banjo and percussion, the constant of our sound. And two voices adding their own interpretation and heart to the songs: Nicole Baltrushes singing and fiddling and Paul Defiglia lending his bass and vocals. Ms. Baltrushes is now Dr. Baltrushes and lives in California where she is working on her family medicine residency. She is truly as kind and loving as her harmonies make her sound. Paul is a multi-talented musician and performer and is currently lending his skills to the Avett Brothers as they tour behind their new record The Carpenter. Whether piano, bass, or voice Paul adds presence and heart to everything he’s involved with.

You’ll hear Nicky and Paul sing and play with us again, just stay tuned and keep listening.

Tired Ghostly Town LP!

Today we kick off tour and we’d like to extend thanks to everyone for getting us going and the continued support. We are slugging it out everyday to bring you the music we love to make and you enjoy hearing. There’s not much money from the small labels we work with, no Kickstarters, no deep pockets. Everything we got we got with sweat and you make it possible by buying records and coming to shows. For that we cannot thank you enough. Thank you thank you thank you.

Today Tired Ghostly Town LP is available at fine record stores everywhere through Chicago Independent Distribution. So walk on in to your favorite wax-shack and ask the friendly clerk to please order you one of our fine records!

If you’re not into vinyl over the course of the next week or two  you can buy our album digitally on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc . We’ll notify you when it’s up officially, it’s taking a little longer than we thought so hang in there pals.

At both our Chicago shows (Logan Hardware – 7 PM – All Ages , Cole’s Bar – 10 PM – 21+) we have got a great Country Soul Ensemble coming your way.  Al and Cris will hold it down as always and will be joined by the very talented Nicky Baltrushes sawing the fiddle and Justin Amolsch blowing trumpet and french horn.

Get ready for a double helping of double bass! Paul Defiglia is joining us for the first part of our tour and Oz is meeting us in DC when Paul takes off to join the Avett Brothers on tour. So that means tonight in Chicago you’re gonna get two amazing bass players playing on all your favorite Al Scorch songs. Add Nicky and Justin to the mix and we’re getting damn close to a Country Soul Orchestra!
