brand new logo, dear old friend

Al Scorch The Country Soul Ensemble Joey Alone

Joey drew this for us. So beautiful I have no idea what to do with it yet but appreciate it. Thank you. Joe in his own words:

Logo For Da Wonderful Al Scorch. Included in this photo are many Chicago landmarks from my childhood (i.e abandoned shit I used to break into and explore/climb on when I was a young vandalicious and enthusiastic teen) including the old Western Electric Tower on Cermak and Cicero, the permanently-risen train bridge on 16th street, the 16th street interlocking tower, the stockyards gate, many a rooftop water tower, the abandoned central manufacturing district warehouses on pershing and damen, and of course the cement silos on damen where it crosses the I & M Canal. The leaves in the right corner are tree-of-heaven (ailanthus altissima, an invasive tree from China that beautifies many busted blocks in Cook County) and the Native Cottonwood (populus sp.), which can be seen frequently emerging through the cracks of pavement on abandoned lots. This is an ode to my own personal version of Cook County, Illinois.

Thank you brother. All you good folks will be able to get a physical print of this amazing image soon. Stay tuned and thanks again Joey.

tapes and tapes and tapes!

Al Scorch at the HideoutA most gracious thanks to all the friends, family and new fans who helped us sell out the Hideout this past Saturday! We were blown away by the support and the feeling in the room as we played was just transcendent. Thank you all!

We played that show as a sneak peak of the fantastic cassette tape version of Tired Ghostly Town released by our home town pals HEWHOCORRUPTS.  Possibly this metal/grindcore/thrash label’s first foray into folk/country/punk music but what a foray it is! The tape officially comes out April 10th and to celebrate on April 12th Al Scorch & Co. will be playing a free all-ages BYOB in-store at Bucket O’ Blood Books and Records here in Chicago. Joined by our good friends Saintseneca on tour from Columbus, OH the show commences at 7:00 PM.

Back in the USA!

Well friends it feels fantastic to be back in the Old U S of A after 6 weeks out in Ireland, England, Holland, and Switzerland! Loads of shows played, friends made, and great times all around.

I got welcomed back by a nice interview with the folks at Soapbox and they are some folks you need to check out! A stellar music project here in Chicago that does so many things I can’t even list them all here. Check them out, and the interview, here!

Al Scorch Water Liars PosterYou can see my solo set and hear some stories March 2nd when I play with the Gunshy and Water Liars from St. Louis. Both of these bands play killer, honest rock and roll music. Come out to Township (2200 N. California) at 10 PM and say hi!

Stay tuned for details about our March 31st show at the Hideout with the Black Willoughbys and finger-style country blues picker Johnny Young. We’ll be celebrating Tired Ghostly Town on cassette tape from HEWHOCORRUPTS INC. and Ryan Duggan has got a gorgeous poster for us coming in hot!

Very excited to play at this formerly squatted now officially occupied project space and venue in Amsterdam. A very inspiring place. American squatting 2012!
